Lewes Beach is located in Sussex County, Delaware. The town refers to itself as "The first town in the first state", as it was the earliest town founded in the state and Delaware was the first state to ratify the constitution. Lewes Beach, together with the towns of Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany, and Fenwick Island, comprises Delaware 's beach resort area.
Lewes is the southern terminus of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, which is an unforgettable way to cross the bay from Delaware to New Jersey. Lewes is adjacent to Cape Henlopen State Park, where can be found beaches, nature trails, bird sanctuaries and the Seaside Nature Center. In addition to this are the bay beaches that provide several types of nautical and recreational activities.
Lewes has a rich history and traditions that have been carefully preserved by the Lewes Historical Society. The historic district in Lewes contains many of the older, preserved homes that reflect Lewes’ colorful past.
